On 14th of October 2021 Sejm passed an amendment to the Waste Law, which is to come into force on 1st of January 2022. The amendment is of crucial importance, as it introduces to the aforementioned act – in its article one – a specification of the regulation’s objective, which is to transition the entire Polish economy to the so-called closed-cycle economy. The changes include detailed regulations for handling construction and demolition waste, clarification and development of regulations for by-products that are not waste, addition of a whole block of regulations for preventing waste generation, and implementation of a definition of extended producer responsibility under EU law. The act also amends acts on maintaining cleanliness and order in municipalities, batteries and accumulators, chemical substances and mixtures, and others.
